Most residential installs are finished in a single visit, typically 3 to 5 hours. A straightforward run from a panel in the garage can be done in about 2 hours, while long conduit runs, panel work, or trenching to a detached garage can stretch the job across a second day.

Many homes are fine as-is. A 48-amp charger needs a 60-amp breaker and enough spare capacity after a load calculation on your existing heating, cooling, water heater, and range. If capacity is tight, options include dialing the charger down to 32 or 40 amps, adding a load-management device, or upgrading the panel or service.

Both work. Garage installs are simpler and keep the equipment out of the weather. Outdoor installs use outdoor-rated equipment, weatherproof conduit and boxes, and proper sealing at the wall penetration. Tesla Wall Connectors and most Level 2 units are rated for outdoor use when installed to the manufacturer's instructions.

Yes. Adding a 240-volt circuit for a charger is permitted electrical work, and it gets inspected. In Chattanooga, electrical permits must be pulled by a licensed electrical contractor - so the permit is part of the install, not something you file yourself.

A hardwired Tesla Wall Connector charges faster (up to 44 miles of range per hour), supports power sharing between two cars, and has no plug to wear out. A NEMA 14-50 outlet costs less up front, caps at 32 amps with Tesla's mobile connector, and lets you unplug and take the cable with you. If this is your daily home charger, the Wall Connector is usually the better long-term choice.

Yes. The current Tesla Wall Connector ships with a J1772 adapter, so it charges Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, Kia, Rivian, BMW, and other J1772 vehicles. If you own a mixed-brand household, a universal Level 2 charger with a J1772 cable is also an option and installs identically.
